The wood flooring guide

Natural character. Individual by nature.

Material considerations for a commercial flooring brief.

Solid or engineered?

Solid wood boards are made from a single piece of timber. Engineered boards combine a real wood surface with a layered construction. The right choice depends on the room, subfloor and product specification.

Look beyond the colour

Board width, grain, surface finish and laying pattern all influence a room’s character. Natural variation is part of wood’s appearance, so view more than one sample when possible.

Plan the installation

Ask about subfloor preparation, moisture checks, acclimatisation and expansion allowances. Underfloor-heating compatibility and refinishing options are specific to the chosen product; confirm these before purchase.
